So you think your kids can do that! Yeah, right! No, no, I mean it, you’re right, your kids can do that. And do you know why, because they don’t care, they’re not afraid, they go inward and express their creativity the best way they know how. They let their mind wander and they don’t judge, they don’t think of techniques or results they just create.
Why aren’t you? What’s the outcome? Do it for yourself and don’t show the result if you don’t want to, but being creative in any way is what’s making us human, it allows us to get better at expressing ourselves. It makes us better thinkers, better problem solvers, better lovers, better humans.
Here are five tips and tricks to be more creative our children teach us.
- Don’t fear;
Easy to say isn’t it, but it’s fundamental. Fear is the biggest threat to our creativity. Fear is procrastination, it’s finding something better to do. But what is there to fear? We fear failure. We fear judgment, we fear success. Look at your kids, life is playing, trying, learning. They don’t think, they just do, they create free of fear all the time.
- Don’t think about techniques;
Techniques are skills that’s been nurtured and practice, practice and practice again. Don’t fear techniques, don’t think about techniques. Techniques will get better with practice, you didn’t stop talking/walking as a child because your technique wasn’t perfect right? You just kept going, enjoying the process, learning new way to express yourself.
- Don’t think about results;
Results are subjective, the process is what matters. Look at your kid when they’re in the process of creation, nothing else exists, they go into their world and they have fun doing it. They don’t expect anything because they know it doesn’t matter. Results are just that, results. It’s done, it’s over, lessons learn, start creating something new. Once the process is done, maybe the results will stay with you, maybe it’ll be shown across the globe, but creation is all about the process. But, when you are done with the process, like a kid you might want to go rushing to show your creations, which brings me to my next point…
- Don’t judge;
Judgment is biased. It’s subjective to external input. Most times we judge our creations through the eyes of others, of what people think. It’s funny and sad, do you judge the way you talk the same way, of course not. However, what we create is just another way of expression, just like talking is. So why do we keep being so hard on ourselves. Why do we keep comparing ourselves with others, and judging our worth base on what we believe to be true. It’s not a bad thing to look at others and wanting to get better, but then it becomes a matter of doing more works so you can get better at what you do. But let’s have fun along the way shut the monkey mind from bombing the process along the way. Never forget that you are unique, let your true self show and be proud. [Show your true colors].
- Just create;
the best way to achieve anything is just by doing the deeds. Shut out everything else and do the work. Setup time to be creative each day and just do what you do, don’t think, don’t fear, don’t judge. Let life create through you, let the flow pass freely and enjoy the process.
